Weekends in WV...

We had a wonderful weekend going to WV and visiting family. There weren't many leaves left on the trees but what were left behind was quite beautiful. It was a lot of fun hanging out with my Mom, drinking too much coffee and going shopping together.

The best part of the trip came at a discount furniture store. We gave our real dining room table to my Mom two years ago. We had just built a huge island in our kitchen and we had turned the dining room in our old house into an office/classroom. We had a small dinette table that we have been using for the past two years.

Let me tell you, I have missed a real table. Our family sits down to a meal together every night. We like to play board games, work puzzles and Jamie and I often have "budget" meetings at said table. Well, this weekend I found a WONDERFUL counter top height table at a huge discount. HUGE. My husband bought it for me for Christmas. I am SO happy! He's going to put it together for me tonight and I can't wait. With the leaf in it it's 54" square and seats 8 people. That should be plenty of room! Also, since my counter space is limited and I no longer have the huge island, I now have all this work space at the perfect height. We don't really have a formal dining room. Just an eating area attached to the kitchen. Which is perfect for us.

It sure is going to beat having everyone here for Christmas and eating on a piece of plywood.

Okay but the best best best part of the weekend...coming home. I kid you not. Pulling in the driveway, opening the door, walking into the cozy living room, smelling the faint remnants of wood smoke (we forgot to close the chimney and it was windy while we were gone), and just feeling welcomed. It was huge for me to be happy to be back home. I generally don't want to leave WV. I guess we're making progress.

I kind of like it.
